BaFin stands for Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht and is allocated to the Federal Ministry of Finance (Bundesministerium der Finanzen). It is an independent institution under public law, which is in charge of the supervision of banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and securities trading.
